Description
Diazepam is used to relieve anxiety and to control agitation caused by alcohol withdrawal. It is also used along with other medications to control muscle spasms and spasticity caused by certain neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy.
Drug Interaction
Drug interactions may change how your medications work or increase your risk for serious side effects. The risk of serious side effects (such as slow/shallow breathing, severe drowsiness/dizziness) may be increased if this medication is taken with other products that may also cause drowsiness or breathing problems.
Valium may cause serious side effects including:
- weak or shallow breathing,
- severe drowsiness,
- lightheadedness,
- depressed mood,
- thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself,
- confusion,
- hallucinations,
- anxiety,
- panic attacks,
- trouble sleeping,
- hyperactivity,
Valium is available for oral administration as tablets containing 5 mg or 10 mg diazepam. In addition to the active ingredient diazepam, each tablet contains the following inactive ingredients: anhydrous lactose, corn starch, pregelatinized starch and calcium stearate.
